This Ocean Wave Jasper Knife is a unique, museum grade flintknapped knife of extraordinary material from Madagascar and Michigan. The blade is what I call Strawberry Swirl, and extremely rare variation of Ocean Wave Jasper. It’s literally the last piece I had of any size, and this one is also sprinkled throughout with tiny silvery, Markasite crystals.
Ocean Wave Jasper is an amazing and rare material that was mined out only a few years after its discovery. The 6.5″ blade is set in a stabilized spalted maple handle of a grade that can rarely be purchased. I harvested this exceptional example of spalted maple in my own woodlot and found it worthy to compliment such a one of a kind blade. The guard is dyed and stabilized oak, which ompliments the blade rather nicely. This 12″ knife is beautifully balanced and truly a one of a kind visual delight.
It’s been in my personal display case for quite a while. But it’s time for this art knife to provide enjoyment for someone who also has a love for extraordinary natural beauty within a knife!
